mozartpc27 wrote:Hearing this morning on the radio that the price of health insurance on the federal exchanges is going to increase, in some places - like Pennsylvania - dramatically.

The timing of this could be better.

Could also be expressed more accurately:

- Premiums are spiking because insurers are state-regulated and own their state-level regulators, who in many states don't actually have any power to reject rate proposals from insurers.

Since Rubio maneuvered to tie off risk corridor protection, insurers have been more skittish about the certainty that they'll make money in the ACA market. Many senior health insurer execs couldn't find a dollar if a stack of bills was dropped in their lap.

- What most ACA-covered people will actually pay is NOT increasing, much; 85% are subsidy-eligible, which will neutralize increases for many. That 15% without subsidies? They're impacted by the "craziest thing" Bill Clinton was scolded for getting wonky about a couple weeks ago. That DOES need fixing.

- plan choices have been trimmed because insurers are run by timid order-takers who don't really know how they ought to pursue the market opportunity they insisted on being handed on a silver platter. Worse is Aetna's retreat, motivated mostly by Bertolini's irritation that his Humana deal has not been well-received in DC. Aetna's since announced a large workforce reduction - which apparently Bertolini had not shared with his direct reports before he announced it at an employee meeting......

Shareholders should demand his dismissal; his ego's clouded his judgment

My purpose was not to comment on the worthiness or unworthiness of Obamacare, but merely to note that any news of a price increase in a program so closely associated with the current administration a week before the election is suboptimal, from the point of view of the incumbent party, and therefore me.

Yuge support from Yuengling:
"Because of a great company like Yuengling," Trump said, "workers can educate their kids and live a prosperous lifestyle."
Trump said high taxes, over-regulation and Obamacare are "destroying" American businesses - a familiar theme of the Trump campaign.
"My father's going to make it a lot easier for business to function," he declared. "We're going to do it right here in the U.S."
Dick Yuengling welcomed Trump, thanking him for taking the time to visit the brewery.
"Our guys are behind your father," Yuengling said. "We need him in there."
Yuengling, 73, turned his family's struggling brewery into a $550 million enterprise with breweries in Pottsville, East Norwegian Township and Tampa, Florida.
In 1985, when he bought the business from his father, Richard Yuengling Sr., its single brewery produced 137,000 barrels per year, according to Forbes magazine.
Family-owned Yuengling, one of the country's five largest beer companies, now makes 2.8 million barrels annually.
Yuengling, who gave up a college education to work in the brewery, ranks 361st on Forbes' Top 400 billionaires in 2016. The magazine reports his net worth as $1.88 billion.

the high taxes and regulation are KILLING Yuengling

Ryan Struyk ‏@ryanstruyk
At least 8,812,911 votes have been cast in the presidential election so far, per new @AP data out just now.

It gets late early out there

right now when you think about the biggest presidential candidate loser I think you think Mondale, but really feels like Trump will be remembered as the worst nominee of modern times. got run over by a fairly dubious, highly beatable candidate. swing and a miss by the GOP.

Hopefully, he won't be remembered as the worst nominee to win an election.
