I'd love to hear the logistics of what would happen if he did drop out. hate to say it but if they threw Mitt in there last minute they'd have a better chance of winning.

Not really.

Ballots have been printed, machines set up. Absentee ballots have already been issued. Early voting has already begun in several (tens?) of states. Even if Donald Trump jumped off the top of Trump Tower tonight, he's on the ballot. President Obama voted today!

In some states, the electors (the people who make up the Electoral College) are tied to the party, but not to the candidate, so if the party selected a different candidate (if they even had the rules in place to do that, which I don't think they do), those electors could cast their votes for the different candidate.

But no, the train has really left the station, about a month or so ago. Chug chug chug. (By the way, this is my recommendation for the Republican party leaders who sat on their hands and didn't condemn Trump long ago - nothing left to do but chug chug chug.)

The Republican base chose to turn out for Donald Trump, for whatever reason. They have really, and thoroughly, fucked themselves (and the party).

It's not the substance but the timing. If this was the post convention flap and the Khan thing happened this week, it'd be the same pile on. Everyone is nervous that he's imploded since the first debate. They never liked him to begin with, but they were afraid of their own voters and a lot of them really think he's preferable to Hillary. Now they see Trump imploding with Independents, so they're afraid of their own voters in the other way, no longer thinking they'll be blamed for a loss, and they still don't like him. Plus they realize they're getting Hillary either way.
