For years, she's been saying that the reason why Republicans can't win the Presidency is because their candidates have been too moderate. Maybe she has nothing to live for after Trump.
But this buys into the "Trump is a conservative Republican" which is a mistake. He barely talks about cutting spending on anything, he opposes free trade, is pretty unpersuasive on social issues (that is, he says what he thinks he's supposed to say but the only people buying it are the social conservative grifters like Franklin Graham and James Dobson and their followers) and many conservatives actively and publicly despise Trump.
He's a populist. His political views have more in common with LePen or even Peron.
The interesting question though is whether the conservatives can win back the Alt-Right, Rush Limbaugh types. It's pretty clear Pence is trying to thread that needle. I'm not sure it's possible.

Timing of this oppo worked out well for Pence, saved him from an awkward "whipped out that grab 'em by the pussy thing" debate gaffe.

I think things like limited spending, free trade, etc. are becoming niche issues of the GOP at this point. The percentage of people that support those positions as their main driver for voting GOP are diminishing. What's mainstream is the white man who feels oppressed by other demographics. that's been the main driver for some time and that's why Trump is the nominee.

In fact, I took her out furniture shopping. She wanted to get some furniture. I said, ‘I’ll show you where they have some nice furniture.’”
