There were only 3 real campaigns - Jeb, Cruz, Rubio - and they were mostly busy trying to kill each other. Cruz's people should have been able to turn more dirt up in the extended period of time after the others were out.

But on this controversy in particular, it wasn't public. No one leaked it until now. It's not a failure of opposition research, though I've seen that a lot on Twitter tonight.
