If the generals haven't come up with a plan to defeat Al Quaeda and ISIS during the last 15 years but are capable of doing so within 30 days they should all be tried for treason.

Still chuckling about Bob "Goober" Corker's inability this morning to allow as to how he has any confidence what.so.EVER in the 2016 Presidential campaign standardbearer of his party.

Something about a body a'hemmin' and a'hawin' in that red-clay shitkicker drawl that's just so simultaneously pitiful and humorous

Trump says he wants to build an Air Force of at least 1200 fighter jets... not a very lofty goal as USAF says they have around 1700 today

We're gonna have a huge navy. Just the best naval defenses you can think of, really. There's gonna be ships...so many ships. Dozens, or more!

The problem is now that the republicans have no military or international strategy the democrats have to somehow house all of it. That creates quite a strain (see Clinton courting both neocons and diplomacy fans).

When one party has no ideas it makes it really hard on the other one.

The Emerson polls a) only call landlines and b) weight to 2012 vote. Ignore them. It's ridiculous they go into the RCP averages but some decent online polling doesn't.

To be fair, his psudo-plan is to replace the aging air fleet. Now, that there is no concept of what that means, how to do it, or bother with actual modern warfare is a never mind, but there were references to the venerable 1952-62 produced BUFF. Since there is a shortage of both pilots and operators ("drones"), having a lot would be a whole different problem, but he kept chanting that this means jobs, lot and lots of jobs. There were also problems with force size and readiness, but that is another knowledge gap. What else? Ships, Marines (was that the Freedom Forum, super lobbyists supreme, that coached him?), and everything.

this is all PHB ish here (point-haired-boss, for those not aware enough to read Dilbert).

Those of you who work in big companies recognize this kind of malarkey. One of the most telling "qualities" of senior management is that they believe they can make thins happen by sheer will. And I'm not exaggerating or making things up, either.

interesting WaPo/Survey Monkey thing I've been looking at...it was a 50 state poll taken place over the course of August 9th through September 1st that ended up surveying 74k registered voters. The sample sizes are as low at 550 or as high as 5k per state.

I wonder how precise a poll like this can be, but it's interesting to read.

can't wait for the 538 takes on it.

IMO the demographic takeaways across the full sample are more interesting than the state by state breakdowns, which seem a little weird and too close across the board.
