Cleveland: The unconventional convention (politics)

Yeah. It is this weird us vs them no matter what. Doesn't matter who. As long as they have an R next to their name. The one with a D next to their is pure evil too because you know, that's what they feel.

Is there basically anything the GOP can do realistically do platform wise in the next 5 months that will make you less miserable

I would like for people I respect in the party to do whatever they can not to embrace the nominee, campaign with the nominee, adopt the positions of the nominee on trade, immigration, etc. At this juncture it seems Trump is implausibly close to Clinton, not likely to win, but wouldn't exactly drag the whole thing down with him either. I think by the time November rolls around losing by 8+ is more likely than winning, and with that goes a number of senators I truly like. But him getting smoked might be good for the party longterm. Weird spot to be in.

Really I just want it to be over.

Joni should stick to castration fantasies. Long, boring, incoherent, zero positive about - wait who's the POTUS nominee she's presumably speaking of?
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

so was it savvy/shrewd for Joni to come on, give insipid speech, not say anything in particular or even general about the candidate, and then check that off her career enhancement to-do list?

This entire night was a perfect reflection on the Republican platform the last 8 years. Hate the Democrats, demonize the "others", and offer no substantive solutions, whatsoever.

What I found interesting, several speeches alluded to "leadership, getting the job done, etc." but never mentioned Trump. Umm...

Last two Democratic conventions worked so well because of how organized they were...You had Michelle Obama do her speech at 10:30 PM on opening night and she was done by 11:00 and they ended on a high note.

Tonight, why in the world would they finish with Joni Ernst? Half of the crowd emptied out and half of the Republican base was probably already in bed as she finished at 11:20...

Plus, the whole night was fear-mongering and they repeated the same thing over and over...

Man, this is a very wrong opinion.

He's one of the most important and effective public officials of the past few decades.

He just kinda hung on a bit too long and became the awkward drunk, kinda racist uncle who should have retired a few years earlier like Willie Mays with the Mets.

According to Chuck Todd, they messed up the order of tonight's speakers.

I never disliked Giuliani as NYC mayor or after because I thought he was pretty fair, especially on social issues. But the dude went apeshit crazy after his failed 2008 presidential run. And it's gotten pretty bad lately with his ridiculous comments about BLM.

Melania's speech basically plagerized a whole paragraph from Michelle Obama's convention speech. Good stuff

Unfathomable laziness. How do you do that? How do you let that happen?

Nah.

Anyone that can do what that man did tonight, let alone the civil liberties he trounced as mayor, oh and also, repeat adulterer.

I stand by my statement.
