This Turkey bombing is bad.

Good friend flew out of Istanbul overnight. He's happy to be back in Boston in one piece.

<edit> Looks like the bombing was outside the airport, so nevermind.

Maddow reported tonight that one of the bombers jumped through the hole created by another's detonation, and that's how one of the explosions occurred inside.

I heard a little of Nigel Farage talking to the EU Parliament. It was total madness. Here was a man playing his Trump car with the inane and disrespectful things he said.

Nigel Farage, bigger asshat the Trump?

What is this about Trump asking Mike Tyson to speak at the convention?

That's pretty bad but I guess not too many Republicans are signing up for a speaking spot.

Chris Christy making national news with his plan to set up the Garden State with a $1.6B budget gap. Here's the math:

- Increase the gasoline tax by 23 cents per gallon + cut the sales tax 1% unlocks 16B in roadwork
- the average New Jerseyan saves $465 on sales taxes, but spends $200 more on gas via taxation leaving $265/Jersite in the wind.

As NJ is already sitting on $153.5 billion in debt, I guess a little more will not hurt.

jh can shed more light, but at least the brief news snippet i hear on npr about the new tax explained it that way. christie proposed a much smaller budget than them, but i think supports the change in the taxes.

that deal seems fairly regressive even with the sales tax cut. i mean it'd be great for anyone who could afford significantly higher gas costs or doesn't own a car. basically, more burden to the middle class.

That new PPP poll is something. Pretty clear Hillary is widening her lead for now at least. Including in PA, which Wasserman has been making dumb arguments about on Twitter as a Trump state.

The gas tax is for the Transportation Trust Fund, which is broke, and for a new initiative to fix our roads and bridges that fail any reasonable standard for safety. It's regressive, but NJ had one of the lowest gas taxes in the country and I don't see any other way the roads get fixed.

The sales tax cut was a Christie demand that the Assembly agreed to. I do not think Sweeney and the Senate will pass it. Significant opposition from D's and R's.

It's the best of bad options, I think. Only plus side is that investing in infrastructure is one of the few areas we can be pretty sure the money gets back to middle class workers, especially in a labor friendly state.
