this isn't basketball. it's horseshoes. him being the closest means he's actually winning. you've gotten to quibbling about if he will or won't just outright win the damn thing.

holy fuck. No, it's the EXACT opposite. A plurality means you will have to persuade others to join in assenting to what you hope will be an electable candidate. Otherwise, you are not "really" the party's candidate

you guys are just trying to play me right? because jesus.
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

well a plurality means you won the most delegates/votes but not more than the others combined

now as the rules for the GOP convention stand currently, a plurality and not a majority means you don't have the nomination sewed up. But it will be his strongest argument that despite 17 candidates starting, he managed to get 4x% of the delegates/vote and thus should be the nominee.

another fun fact, as referenced in the post I made earlier today, if you don't get a majority of the electoral college in the general, the election decision goes to the house

srs question. Would you be happy with President Cruz? I'm asking in isolation, not looking for "I would prefer him over Hillary."

"I don't know if anybody's worse than Trump," Graham told Blitzer, rolling out a familiar burn: "If you're a Republican and your choice is Donald Trump and Ted Cruz in a general election," he said, "it's the difference between poisoned or shot -- you're still dead."

No, but it's important that he's nominated anyway

Weird pattern of politicians endorsing a candidate long after it may have been a factor. Would be something if Scott Walker doesn't endorse Cruz by the end of this month.

Meanwhile Kasich is going to campaign in Utah and his PAC is doing ad buys to stop Cruz from hitting WTA. Never change Kasich.

This will make your head hurt but he's helping Cruz, and himself. Now, for extra credit, who's he hurting (besides your head)?

Not enough detail in there for me, especially since he's throwing weird percentages in here & there apparently just because. And he thinks drumpf won't do as well in a state whose Rs chose the World Wrestling Entertainment crazy lady to run for the US Senate - twice? Come on.

And this will be a game of inches. Strange inches.

TenuredVulture wrote:Senate is not going to consider Garland. They simply can't appear to fold. I don't think the Presidential situation changes their calculus at all. But Dem Sen candidates can use this, particularly in red and purple states, to bang Republican incumbents over the head with "petty obstructionism" over and over again. The Democrats are saying--ok, people decide--decide if they want to continue with Republicans who not only are going to nominate Trump as their candidate, but also won't even consider a moderate nominee for the SC. Had Obama made progressives happy with a more liberal appointee, this strategy would be less effective.

To be sure, I stand by my analysis that McConnell was a total dope with making an ultimatum that simply wasn't necessary.

Finally, if a lame duck Senate does hurriedly confim Garland after November, my understanding is that Obama does not actually have to appoint him. (The actual issue in Marbury v. Madision).

Unless Garland was previously "in on it," this would be a really nasty thing to do - even if it was "the Republicans fault."

So maybe they "win" anyway. I don't know how "moderate" this Garland cat really is - a piece in the NYT yesterday seemed to indicate he is fairly lefty actually - but we can always hope that having been treated kindly by the Dems and shabbily by the Rs weighs on his future decisions.
