Expected Rubio would be shut out tonight, but hit the delegate bar everywhere except Texas and maybe Vermont. Looks like he'll miss in Alabama too, which is suboptimal and underperforming his polls for a change. Did not expect Virginia to be as close as it was, and had no idea what to expect in Minnesota, but the win there is looking pretty comfortable.

Glass half full for #NeverTrump is it's abundantly clear he isn't at 45% nationally or even 40% nationally or whatever some of the recent polls have shown. Glass half empty for #NeverTrump is it's abundantly clear this field isn't winnowing, and he'll continue to win most states. The amount of hate I have in my heart for John Kasich right now is extremely unhealthy.

So I get that people would be upset over it being decided at the convention and not at the polls but I do think it's a legitimate point that no one votes in the primaries and regardless 60+% of the people that do aren't voting for Trump.
Two days later I get a text back that says I'm a basketball player and a businessman, not a Thundercat.

I really don't understand the concern about a convention, at least compared to a Trump nomination. A convention will be messy and there will be hurt feelings, but the result will (probably) be something most Republicans can live with. A Trump nomination is catastrophic.

One reason it's unhealthy of course is because it's the same kind of reasoning that often led people to flaying, say, Tomas Perez or Ricky Ledee for the Phils not being a better ballclub in 2004. Wouldn't Rubio being as good as he ought to be, be enough to ace out Kasich being Kasich?

My feeling is drumpf has to find another gear in states other than the "true" winner-take-all states, and the convention states, over the next 2 weeks or he doesn't corral the nomination before Cleveland.

I don't know a lot about all this, but I saw the delegates were pretty even coming into today between Bernie and Hillary, but the super delegates were way skewed in favor of Hill. Today seems to really favor Clinton, but with the late Bernie wins, does he have a chance?

So many excuses for why Rubio isn't winning. It's John Kasich's fault and before that Jeb Bush's. We were told that Rubio would have a better chance if Jeb and Christie dropped out. They did. Rubio won one state tonight. One.

Here's the truth: Rubio has been exposed. People know he's a puppet for billionaire donors and the Republican establishment who gets fed his lines and recites them like a robot. He also can't stand his job of legislating in the Senate.

he still has no chance, but he did perform better today than expected. he lost big today mostly because he does very poorly in the SE and well in the west and midwest. there were a lot of SE states that voted today. not so many in the west and midwest. winning OK was a pretty big surprise, imo. he won pretty handily there, MN, and CO. even winning those states is pretty surprising, but winning them by 15 or so % was not expected at all.

he still has no chance.

A brokered R convention would be a sensational national political education opportunity, cleansing for Rs without dooming the party-as-enterprise - kinda like a forest fire - while absolutely Presidency clinching for Ds. A Drumpf nomination would do the same for Rs as far as POTUS 2016, with no redeeming benefits for Rs or for America.

For Rs, then, Election 2016 is the Year of Eating Your Peas

Dan Diamond ‏@ddiamond
Share of the popular vote on Super Tuesday, updated:

Trump —— 34.0%
Cruz —— 26.5%
Rubio —- 22.3%
Kasich -- 6.6%
Carson - 5.8%

I imagine without Texas Trump is closer to 40% and Rubio is a bit ahead of Cruz. Cruz did extraordinarily well in Texas, and his delegate haul from tonight is gonna be 2x Rubio's due to Marco just missing a few thresholds and overperforming in places where it doesn't benefit you to do better (MN and VA). Trump is getting a third of the vote. His inevitability is at once overhyped (because he's really got a lot of problems) and not worried about enough by the actual actors in the race. Debate Thursday should be interesting.
