Pretty convinced that the high-end mattress business is a scam.

I'm all for buying cheap or mid-range, but my last few have all sucked. I sleep on my mom's rock hard futon once in a while and feel amazing the next day. Hopefully plywood can buy me some time

The real problem is it takes at least a couple weeks to know what you've got. And even if you have the right to return it, they'll just stick you a lemon replacement.

I'm interested in Sleep Number because you can at least make adjustments, but it's expensive.

I spend like 3/4 of my nights on a Serta never flat air mattress with a two inch memory gel topper in my office/2nd bedroom. I got this for guests and love it, they were actually impressed by it too. It cost a combined 200 bucks. Hell, just get a low end mattress and add a good memory gel topper for it. Actually I should do this for my real bed, don't know why I haven't.

The Tuft and Needle mattress i got has a 100 day trial. if you don't like it they'll either get the mattress or throw it out and give you your money back.

Has bounce for night activities and easy of getting in and out of bed, with localized movement that prevents disturbing sleep partners

I wasn't in the market for a new mattress, but now I'm sold.

"common core"; i.e. "least common denominator" core

I've been in many debates about this and have seen some good arguments on why it's good. Bottom line (IMO) it is a good way to help those who have a real hard time grasping numeric concepts. However, to those (i.e. a good majority of kids) who can pretty easily assimilate said concepts, it only service to confuse and frustrate. My kid was doing 5th grade math problems in his head at 5 YO and when he finally got to fifth grade he struggled with the way he was being taught. But I do totally see what they're trying to do and how it could help some.

Yeah it seems unnecessarily difficult. Apparently their school has even readjusted to make it less difficult this year. She was killing it in second grade with math factors last time I was watching them after school but was struggling today. Even the second grader is using these addition tables, but they ask for "0" and "11" which you can't even figure out with the table.
