If it's a party where they're providing food, leave it. If it's just a get together where everyone brings their own stuff and you share then you can probably take some back.

should clarify by top shelf I meant something that is exceedingly difficult to obtain.

Yeah, I agree with this. Went to my fantasy draft and we ordered pizzas and subs and it was BYOB, we all chipped in on the pizzas and subs so I took the rest of my beer home after, then went to bbq yesterday where they cooked the food and I brought a 12 pack, left the remainder there. That's my general rule of thumb anyway, if in doubt though, I'll leave the rest behind.

bringing 48 beers and taking 24 hour seems fair to me. i probably wouldn't get upset. but the past few parties i've had i've come away with a bunch of beer and i've been pretty psyched

Gotta agree with the others az, that you have to leave it behind. Four 12 packs is a shit ton of beer though. Next time stash one behind and only bring it out if necessary.

Well yea. I have seen a lot of parties go downhill quickly when the expectation that we finish all of the bottles hits.

What if party hoster is stuck with four plus cases? Can never drink that much in a reasonable time.

what is a reasonable amount of time? beer doesn't go bad quickly if you store it properly.

A season maybe? Like if it's late summer and lots of te beers are summer-ish you head into fall with some shandy and wheat beers, I just don't know if I'd ever get through that alone.

Guess you would need another party.

i don't really see the issue of getting rid of a bunch of cases. like you said, throw another party, invite some friends over(hey guys, i have a shitton of beer, you want to come over and drink it for free?), hold a poker night. it's pretty easy to get rid of beer.

Ok guys.

I also don't really drink at home/alone/ during the week. I guess personally I would never get through them. Plus I like trying different things too!
