my impression has been that it's the guy's total assholeishness about the whole thing, rather than 'hunting is bad', or even 'hunting lions is bad'.

it's more 'wealthy self-congratulatory pindick who shoots living things with arrows for fun and with a history of killing things illegally arranges to kill an animal illegally, does so, lies about it and tries to blame people he hired to arrange it'

Made the best tacos in my life tonight. Shame to put that beautifully cooked skirt steak in the fridge for it to taste considerably worse when I reheat it.
