Knew a kid in college who crashed some dude's car as an intern because he didn't know how to drive automatic. Can't make that up.

It's a good idea for everyone to learn how to drive a stick. Cuz you never do know.

Right--in a post-apocalyptic scenario, your best bet in getting a vehicle to work is to push start or roll start a standard. (An important lesson from The Stand that walking dead seems to ignore.)

Never driven a stick and don't know how. Feel like I could wing it if I had to though.

It's not really that difficult, though it requires some coordination between your clutch foot and your accelerator foot. And if you're excitable, the first time the car bucks or leaps forward may be disconcerting.

You live in Doylestown, right? I'm in Lansdale and I have a stick shift car.

Easier if you're living in South Jersey rather than San Francisco. I once had to sell my wife's car and didn't realize i would be teaching the potential buyer to drive stick until he showed up. We headed off to Fairmount Park, and after a half hour I declared that he had it down perfect. I had a few drinks after that, but no damage was done.

My first car was automatic and then every car I've bought since, as my daily driver, has been stick.

You don't really notice after a while, and you get a lot more control of your car's performance.

I'm going back to manual after driving automatic for many years.

I dunno, I like driving stick. Not all the time, it's a pain in the ass in stop and go traffic, but when you are on some back roads it's a lot of fun actually. There's just something about driving on a wide open back road downshifting going into some bends, keeping it in third or fourth a little longer than you usually would when you get into a straightaway away and punching it out before going to 5th gear.

I had an Acura rsx type s a few years ago that was a 200 hp 6 speed manual that was so fucking fun to drive

4 out of my first 6 cars were manual. All automatic since then. Too hard to shave and drive with a stick

I love driving stick but I hate driving it in traffic. Most of my daily driving is in traffic so I gave up on it. I might just suck it up and make my next car stick (in 2 or 3 years) since one after that may very well be driving itself.

If I could afford it I'd love a car with a dual-clutch transmission that I could put into auto mode for driving in traffic and then shift with paddles and pretend i'm an F1 driver when the opportunity presents itself.

Don't think I'll ever buy a car with auto transmission.

I used to think that, but getting older and having kids changed my priorities. My Prius is a boring car to drive (unless you treat getting high MPG like a game) but I don't care. It's safe and efficient. 99% of my driving is such that a higher-performance car wouldn't get me there any faster anyway.
