All I know is that the last time we played we laughed are asses off. I doubt that the 2nd time is as good (it never is).

On the other hand, we are playing with a larger and different group of freinds.

Also, I am really immature.

Monopoly has of course provided me with a fertile environment for converting scores of innocent games players to bolshevism

I had college friends who were dangerously into the avalon hill military games long ago.

Speaking of Avalon Hill, when I was growing up my brother and I attempted to play the entire 1979 baseball season via their Statis-Pro baseball card game. That meant playing and keeping stats for every team and play every game. We played on and off for 10 years until he left for college. Never finished out the season, tho  At the height we could complete a 9 inning game in 20-25 minutes. that game absolutely destroyed stratomatic imo.

I used to play that a lot. Great fun.

He wants to play cards so I think I'm going to try playing war with him tonight.

Nobody cheats?! Well that's not any fun at all!

We played a lot of Spades when i was in the Army. Some played hearts but I wasn't thrilled with that. The best was two deck pinochle. I knew regular pinochle really well. First Sergeant, my partner, got me up to speed pretty quickly and we were nearly unbeatable.

Good times.

the price is ridiculous, but the concept is pretty neat:

I have no idea why it is this expensive.

Yeah, my mom has the version that's like $200 in good condition. The old ones are really collectable, apparently. We ruined that by playing thousands of games over the years. I found a deck for $15 or so. Gotta buy it used, tho.

I played a lot of spades in college. When we had 3, we'd play a game called Oh Hell (we called it Countdown), which can be played with odd numbers of people. I was later informed by a friend of mine who is black that I was the first white person he knew that played spades.

I played this game several times around the period I first began trying to learn French (jr high-ish - way too late), which association has left me with trez negative feelings about said game

I'm going to show my suburban ignorance right now. I am going to the city tomorrow for some historic tour fundraiser thing that starts at Independence Hall and ends at City Tavern and I don't feel like relying on Septa. Anyone have any parking tips so I don't end up spending an arm and a leg?

Think it depends on what he's doing. If a lot of labor and time are exhausted, I'd slip a 5 or 10. I don't think any more is warranted.

I think there's a lot on 8th and market that's still only 12 bucks for 24 hours on Saturday into Sunday.

Thanks all. Got a followup call from Kathy at AAA, whose first words were, "How are you doing today?" Well, Kathy, how do you think anyone's day is going when they have to call AAA? I was polite, though, since the rest of my evening is in her hsnds.
