Holy shit; watching those six minutes was torture. WTF was the idiot in red talking about? Hilarious how she lectures Dems on dipping into the old playbook wrt Bush and then precedes to dredge up the "Obama hates America" bit. Apology tour? I'll have to check my Ticket Oak for floor seats.

Thanks - you've helped to clarify here.

Yes - China is better than the US in renewable energy.

The argument - and I was hoping SOMEBODY (Doc) would get the Billy Preston reference - is that Monkey and others are focused on the growth of renewable energy instead of the total amount.

That's strange, you were certainly making it sound like China hasn't been improving given the graph you kept posting. If you can continue to improve the % of renewable energy use, eventually the overall numbers will come down. This is basic math. China's fossil fuel use is going up because more and more of their people are doing well economically. It's not that they've gotten worse about fossil fuel use. They've actually gotten better and will continue to get better. The problem is the number of people they have entering the middle class economy. When that levels off, their overall fossil fuel use will start to go down as they continue to increase their alternative energy use. We are way behind in the development of the types of programs that will allow that to happen in the US on a large scale.

I think it's useful to look at these two giants because they are the two biggest users of fossil fuels and because they have a very different approaches to the problem. The US is allowing the markets to correct the problem with little governmental intervention and the Chinese are mandating the changes through the authoritarian government. I think it's useful to consider the advantages and disadvantages of each. And it also may be useful to see which programs work the best in China because I think eventually the government will need to be more involved in the US.

But yeh, these two countries are not models for the movement from fossil fuels to alternative energies. Germany is the model, I think. Despite a huge manufacturing economy, they are managing to pull it off. They still have problems, but they are making huge strides. Heck, they even export much of the alternative energy production to other countries.

Seems to be mostly schools and post offices in PA.

Now we all know that UPS does it better and cheaper. And public schools are just babysitters for poor people. Real kids go to private schools or are homeschooled by nannies.

All this map does is highlight what a commie bastard Roosevelt was.

Well, that's what Billy Mumphrey would say, too.

More likely, as China increases its alternative energy production tenfold, it will double its fossil fuel consumption.

Possibly, but that does nothing to dispute what I said. I would trade energy programs with them in a heartbeat, but I wouldn't want the billion people that came with it. They have a serious numbers problem.

Rep. Andy Harris of MD says the following regarding the marijuana prohibition rider attached to spending bill: "That’s the way the Constitution was written,” Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) said in an interview Wednesday. “If they don’t like that oversight, move outside of the federal district to one of the 50 states that is not covered by the jurisdiction of Congress as a whole.”

Republicans, all for local autonomy and devolution of federal powers until they aren't. This is why I left the Party years ago to go Independent. To override the popular will, aka 70% of the public of a major US city, is criminal. Fuck off Andy.

I honestly don't understand how the party that claims to be fiscally responsible can sneak in that bail out clause for derivative trading

It's really quite a mentality that people don't get control over provisions other states get simply because they live closest of all to our federal government.

Personally, I am psyched about the clause that gets rid of campaign contribution limits. That'll really help the country.

It's a step in the right direction, anyhow. More money should flow through the parties as opposed to outside groups.
