FFS, I remember in the 8th grade we had an assembly where we saw a film (yes, literally a 16mm reel) where they instilled proper merging techniques- i.e. you should be at traffic speed by the top of the ramp. And these were the days when we still had to account for horses and buggies on the highway!

I also find that people already on the hiway often don't know proper merging techniques- if you're in the right lane, and someone is entering the hiway, altering your speed ever so slightly either way can make all the difference between a successful or unsuccessful merge attemp.

and merging at the 'merge point' is scientifically correct as long as the person in the lane being merged into is not being a huge dickbag and not letting the person in. if your vehicle is properly spaced from the car in front of it the it should be no issue to let the car merge in front of you or even behind you

Couple of factors in play here. Cash-strapped schools have cut back on behind-the-wheel driver ed. And more and more drivers are immigrants who never had driver ed and whose parents did not own cars. It is astonishing, still, how awful all the other drivers are. I never get annoyed by the aggressive drivers - it's the timid morons who create jams and turn normal people into road ragers.

best merge point in the county is lancaster ave onto 422. #soblessed i made it through 4 years at alvernia with no incidents there. will be nice when they realign the entrance and exit into the right lanes.
