My niece has down syndrome. I've probably said it more than I should (which is 0), but I try to be aware of it.

Yes, I had similar feelings, my usage had started to decline for much the same reasons, then over the past few years I've been exposed to some families with children who have mental disabilities and while it doesn't have the violence or hate associated with it that some other slurs do, it attacks people who just don't deserve it. We call our friend who does something dumb the r word and while it's not attacking someone with a disability directly, but it does imply that people with a learning or developmental disability are stupid, which just isn't true. I will most likely not jump all over someone for saying unless it's especially an egregious usage, but it is out of my vocabulary. I'll get off my soap box now.

Cringed when I did a search for me using the word and got 21 matches. Luckily I never actually used it as almost all were from posting in a thread with the word in the title, a few were quotes, and once I got labeled as one by someone named phillyfanatic.

Always weird looking over old posts, as I can't remember making 90% of them and some seem to be created by a completely different person.

the point is i rarely if ever have used that word other than in clearly sarcastic/over-the-top instances and you're following me around the board being a dickhead because i told you i don't care about your shitty opinion on one specific topic.

i was not "going on" and i also was not showing "rage" (which, by the way, is akin to telling someone to "calm down" during a serious argument, pretty condescending). my posts were set off by jerz posting "faux outrage on faux outrage." i have since said that Suey Park seems nuts but that the original tweet was still a bad idea and offensive out of context.

sorry for using the word i used earlier today. other people have used it recently and not in an obviously sarcastic way.
