Saying he's no stranger to stiff competition, former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Garry Cobb, on Monday became the latest South Jersey candidate to announce his bid for U.S. Congress.

Cobb, now a radio personality on WIP sports radio, will run as a Republican in the highly Democratic district vacated in February by Rep. Robert E. Andrews (D., N.J.), who served nearly 12 terms.

1. G Cobb is a goddamn embarrassment.
2. That district is so Democrat that he shouldn't stand an iota of a chance.

I'll be pretty bummed if he gets that seat.

In order to prevent embarrassment, Democrats in NJ-01 will replace the guy leaving Congress before the Ethics Committee can sanction him for a variety of campaign finance violations with George Norcross's brother.

More interested to see who they put in Norcross's senate seat. Rob Andrews was an asshat, most are glad to see him go.

Yeah, embarrassment doesn't seem to be much of a factor in NJ politics.

I don't care for George Norcross (especially after those shenanigans where he and Christie tried to merge Rutgers Camden with Rowan), but I don't have any issues with Don Norcross. Cobb has no redeeming qualities though.

If I were the Russians, I'd wait a few more weeks, let another major news story break that grabs the attention of the American political leadership, and then rip through Western Ukraine. I'd stop at the Dnepr River and let that be the new international boundary whilst I consolidate my gains in the Crimea and the new Russian Provence of West Ukraine.

And then I'd sit back and watch NATO squirm like worms on a hook as they raise their defense spending, realizing that not a one of them would do anything.

Longer term, I'd look further east, perhaps in one of the Central Asian countries with a large Russian minority, and repeat the tactic in a few years. The more inaccessible the location, the greater the chance of success for the Russians.

In the short run, this is all about consolidation of Russian citizens, and also about securing natural resources. It also has a pleasant side effect of letting the world know that the Russian Bear has emerged from it's 25 year hibernation and is quite a bit hungry after such a long sleep.

Pretty scummy thing to do to invite someone on your show and introduce them like that, even if you're right.

Donald has already shown his interest in helping his constituents by introducing legislation which favored, at least for now, nobody but his family members. He'll fit right in down there. It will be a wasted vote but I'm gonna go with Frank Minor (unless there is some video of him smoking crack that surfaces later).

The latest news story circulatingis that Putin is eyeing returning Finland to the Russian fold. Finland was part of a previous Russian empire and it is not a NATO country (unlike Norway where NATO has been holding invasion exercise) making it an easy target in the eyes of some. Like the Ukraine, there are many economic ties between the two countries, most notably natural gas.

Unlike the introductory material in the linked article, there was a radio interview of Andrei Illarionov about this. Essentially Illarionov commentary on the radio at just after 0500 was saying that this has long been Putin's goal and he expects that an invasion will occur in the next few years, and that the expectation is that it is a dare that the NATO countries will do nothing. This is captured in the second half of the article.

Regarding the US presence, there is only a small contingent of US Military personnel at the embassy taking our influence off the table.

I would agree with LG that a sweep into a backwoods Asian country that is favorable to Russia is likely as well.
