If there is any truth to this (where are you getting it from?), I'd imagine it has to do with Jeb's conversion to Catholicism, his wife, and the fact that he and his family are probably really pro-life. Babs definitely isn't, George H.W. wasn't until he was (for political reasons), and the same for George W. Laura Bush is pro choice.

“I think this is a great American country, great country, and if we can’t find more than two or three families to run for high office, that’s silly, because there are great governors and great eligible people to run. And I think that the Kennedys, Clintons, Bushes, there are just more families than that. And I’m not arrogant enough to think that we alone are raising, but we’re — we’re raising public servants, whether they’re feeding the poor, like Lauren is, who’s fed 68 million children around the world, or Barbara, who’s bringing global health to the world, or Pierce is working for Big Brothers, Big Sisters.

But there are a lot of ways to serve. And being president is not the only one. And I would hope that someone else would run, although there’s no question in my mind that Jeb is the best qualified person to run for president, but I hope he won’t, because I think he’ll get all my enemies, all his brother’s, all — and there are other families. I refuse to accept that this great country isn’t raising other wonderful people.”

Gee, thanks mom.

I think it's relevant to point out that Barbara is a bit of a cranky old lady these days.

Huh. Sounds like Barbara agrees with me that I am pretty sure we had a revolution around here to prevent government by inheritance. If I could work my will anyone who was the spouse or direct descendant of a President, Senator, or House member would be barred from winning elective office at the federal level (through grandchildren, so George P. Bush would be ruled ineligible, but his kid could run).

Same for the Clintons, etc. I don't like family dynasties running things in government. Anti-democratic.

Jeb doesn't have to do much groundwork at this point because if he decides to jump in, the Bush name that'll hurt him when it comes time for people to vote does a lot of the work on the raising $$ and assembling a team front. The lack of effort Jeb needs to do at this point means I think he'll put off a decision for a while. Ryan seems committed to being Ways and Means Chair in the upcoming Congress, and I think the field would have to be a 2012 type disaster for him to jump in.

Jeb won't run. I think at this point he's more in it for helping his son move up the ranks than anything else.

Yeh, his son is going to be president one day, at least that's my far off, the board will be gone before I can be proven wrong, prediction. He may even be able to pull the Latino vote back to the GOP side. I said the same thing 10 years ago when he was in high school. I heard he was interested in politics and heard him speak and you could just tell that with his name and his looks, he was going to be a factor if he didn't have some huge behavioral issue. Since I said it so long ago, I'm going to stick with it. At the moment, he's all but certain to run for the Texas Land Commissioner spot, which is often a stepping stone to higher office in Texas and controls things like education and property stuff. If Perry steps down, he may even run for governor.

George P. Bush is 37, so he's been out of high school for slightly more than 10 years. He's been running for the Texas Land Commissioner job for a year now. Perry announced his retirement last July. Greg Abbott, the current Attorney General, is the Republican candidate for governor.

I am behind the times. So he didn't end up running for governor.

I guess it was that long ago that I first saw him, but he must have been out of high school. Maybe it was a college thing. He looked very young, I thought in his teens, when I first saw him. But he must have been in his early 20s. In any case, I said a long, long time ago that he would be prez one day. Prediction is still in play.

Depending on when his birthday is, he's coming up on either 19 or 20 years out of high school.

Apropos of nothing, I'm a year older than GPB. I'm not ready to be older than the president. Not by at least a decade.

If I lived in PA, I'd vote Tom Wolf for governor because his daughters are hot.

Rob Andrews set to resign from Congress before the end of the month to take a job at a Philly law firm/get out of there before the Ethics Committee gets to him.

Donald Norcross, George's brother, is the front runner to replace him.

Good stuff, he was awful. I get the feeling Norcross was going for that seat either way.

What a shocker that the Dems would line up to put Don in DC; they already did it once when they put him in the state senate. Andrews' body isn't even cold yet and Sweeney is already carrying the milk. If Norcross were in my district I would totally be running for his vacated senate seat. I am no great shakes but at least I am honest and of an independent mind. And that is more than any of my local reps can say.

Do you think there will be a special election, Hoya?

The money in the race for his seat is usually around 5 million if memory serves. Someone established, probably a former freeholder or mayor will run for both sides. Or a former Eagle I guess.

I think there has to be a special election for the congressional seat, depending on when Andrews resigns.

The party gets to pick Norcross's replacement (usually an assemblyman and then the replacement for the assemblyman) if Norcross wins the special and resigns.

Yes--you have win an election to sit in the House of Reps. Until the election is held and a winner is certified, the seat is vacant.

Right, but the question is timing. Depending on when he resigns, the law might suggest the seat sits vacant until November since the regular election is coming up. If he departs soon that won't happen.
