Everyone pretty much underestimated Obama. Hillary's main competition was supposed to be Edwards.

still remember right leaning people telling me obama would never get elected in 2008. i didn't argue because i was just an idiot teenager, but it's still funny to me how wrong they can be with national perception.

maybe i'm wrong, but it seemed like a fairly popular narrative in the right. that he was too young and inexperienced to win a presidential election.
