drsmooth wrote:Related to earlier conversation on ACA plan premium rates, a pantload of articles on where rates might end up for 2014, and beyond, most of which are highly speculative, including that dramatic looking bar chart at the end of the list (considerable difference of opinion among experts at the firm that produced it about whether that 'forecast' is playing out in 'real' rates, or whether it will hold into the future).

Those rates are already set, right? The article was from May 2013, and it was guessing what the rates would look like in October.

It's the rates that will be set in a few months, that will go into effect for next year (2015), that will be affected by the actual composition of people who signed up for coverage through the exchange.

Yes, the article with the bar chart was reflective of guesses about 2014 rates.

I posted the link to collection of articles on rates mainly to suggest how little science or certainty is involved in ratemaking, particularly in a 'new' environment like the one generated by ACA, and even when you have a base of actual policyholders to work from. I'm pretty confident the range of uncertainty is greater than +/- 5%.

In a situation like this, as in the IRS scandal where they may have targeted GOP groups, we need to start at the bottom and just follow it right to the top. You just know Christie was in on this. There's no way a low ranking official does this without the direction of the governor. Heck, the people who made the decision in this case are about a thousand times closer to the governor than that IRS clown is to Obama.

I'm sure the conservative members of the forum will agree. We MUST find out what happened and why. In the IRS case, it was just a matter of money changing hands. In this case, people could have died. I'm sure we can all agree that Christie should take the stand and possibly be impeached over this.

Have people called for Obama's impeachment over the IRS scandal?

(I'm not sure why I'm even responding to your post)

Ok, I'll take the impeachment part out, even though some GOPers probably said it. Now it's pretty close.

I was just channeling the right's crazy and got lost in it. It's a dark place with little air. I think I started to hallucinate.

Corbett proposes big-government ACA-type solution to Medicaid expansion, doesn't note irony in his criticisms:
To begin with, Corbett, a Republican, wants to spend Medicaid expansion dollars to buy private insurance policies for the newly eligible, rather than cover them under the traditional Medicaid program, an idea pioneered by Arkansas.
Corbett wants to eliminate all co-pays but one in favor of a new premium structure that requires many able-bodied, working-age enrollees to pay a monthly premium to keep the coverage or risk losing it for up to nine months. Those premiums can be reduced if the enrollee pays on time and completes an annual health risk assessment and physical, but the administration also wants the ability to change or expand that list.

the amount of people we'd have to hire to maintain this would be incredible. yay for small government keeping out of people's lives, too, with requiring work search requirements for adults for MEDICAL INSURANCE eligibility.

jesus christ

the maddow blog take:

But in an unexpected twist, Pryor was slammed, not by church-state separationists, but by the National Republican Senatorial Committee. “So is the Bible Mark Pryor’s compass, providing the ‘comfort and guidance to do what’s best for Arkansas?’ Or is it really not a good rule book for political issues and decisions made in the Senate? Guess it depends on which Mark Pryor that you ask,” NRSC Director Brad Dayspring responded.

Adding another twist, Rep. Tom Cotton (R), the far-right House freshman running against Pryor, actually took the Democrat’s side, calling the NRSC’s response “incredibly bizarre and offensive.” Cotton’s campaign spokesperson added, “We should all agree that America is better off when all our public officials in both parties have the humility to seek guidance from God.”

Taking stock, what do we have here? A red-state Democratic senator literally waving a Bible around in a campaign ad, and a Republican Senate candidate at odds with the Republican campaign committee trying desperately to get him elected. When religion and campaign politics mix, strange things can and will happen.

will Nelson Mandela free any loony rightwing reactionary pols from the sharper edges of their tinfoil-encased base? kind of funny that clods like newt are just now finding themselves flat repulsed by the dingleberries clinging to their national 'brand'

It really is illustrative of how far the GOP has swung into craziland that they are actually trying to distance themselves from speaking kindly about Mandela. And many of those who aren't doing it are instead using his death to point out some strange parallel between apartheid and whatever liberal bugaboo they're obsessing about at the moment.

Heck, one dem did something like the latter and I'm embarrassed about it. I can't imagine what sane republicans must think of their party's reaction to his death.

At some point, they cease being clinging dingleberries and start being the rank and file of the party. These people are controlling the GOP right now. They aren't dingleberries clinging to a brand, they ARE the brand. People like newt are now the dingleberries clinging to the memory of what their party used to be.
