i really don't understand the problem with it. protecting the brand and all i get, but this guy is still buying from trader joe's so they're still making money off of him.

i don't really have a strong opinion on this, i just remember laughing really hard when my roommate told me about the story and that he changed his store name to "irate joe's".

bc they don't want to be competing against themselves in canada and they're not in control of any ads or anything that he could create with their product. it's just basic branding stuff.

I can potentially see why Tj's doesn't like him buying their stuff in bulk and reselling it. Since Tj's carries a lot of limited run items that people love, if a guy goes in and buys all of the pea berry coffee, for instance, as well as a bunch of other stuff, the customers who are going for the coffee specifically are gonna go to this guys store instead and not buy the other stuff they are shopping for at Tj's. I mean suing him seems to go a bit far, maybe just limit quantities of certain items he or anyone can purchase and call it a day.

yeah, there really are a bunch of different reasons this is a huge pain in the ass.

also TJs prices are a big part of their rep. they don't want people thinking their stuff costs 140% of their prices

trader joes just repackages already existing products. a little hypocritical if you ask me.

no, it's the opposite. They sell Cheerios for half the price. They sell the chili for half the price of the name brand (Amy's).

Also, it's not deceptive bc on the web site they say they find great foods and put it in the Trader Joe's name

so i just googled the p/irate guy. can't tell how far he drives. legal minds seem split on who would prevail here.

at this point, TJ's should just go into damage control mode and open a store in vancouver and offer they guy a manager's job or something

they've started the process of opening stores in Canada. i bet he turns it down since he can't mark everything up
