i think it's pretty proven that free shipping attracts more buyers and a higher average profit. I offer free shipping to the lower 48 then calculate shipping to 90210 to set my baseline price.

it really depends on the product, though. somethign like dvd's, cd's, games, people don't care about $2 for shipping
