a fun new way for me to kill time is to spontaneously decide i want something, then decide to be extremely frugal, yet picky, and spend time refreshing the 1st page of search results on ebay.

another ebay note: my sister-in-law got this chair and ottoman that needed a lot of work at a flea market for next to nothing. Since she and my brother recently moved into an older home that will be providing them with tons of projects for the foreseeable future, she decided to place the chair and ottoman on ebay. just sold today for $916

My parents (well, my dad) has the thermostat set to 78. My room has horrible ventilation and is easily over 80 right now. I feel like this is one of the reasons why I haven't been sleeping well the last few weeks. Hard to sleep when you're sweating. Can't wait to move out of this house.

jesus

my roommate and I have sort of fallen into a compromise at 69 but I generally prefer it at like 66 because I'm fat and hairy and sweat more than most people I've ever met. we turned off the air and opened the windows because it was nice the other night and I woke up soaking wet with it reading 75

oh yeah, the 69 is obviously a purposeful choice. pretty sure that's how I got him to agree to it. otherwise we'd be living in a 72-degree hellhole

Our AC kicks ass, but so much so that we're freezing after 15 minutes. Stupid thing doesn't have an auto function, it's either on or off

I think my AC is busted or something. Couple weeks ago it stopped pushing out cool air. I went downstairs to check on it and two of the pipes going in to (or out of?) the central unit were frozen. Found a filter thingy and it was caked with dust and junk. So I got a replacement at Home Depot and that seemed to help for a while, but then just yesterday it stopped pushing out cool air again and sure enough the pipes were frozen when I went downstairs to check again. Do I have to pay someone to come out and check on this now? Or is there something else easy I can replace myself? Maybe I should've posted this in the home repair blues thread.

I had the same problem with a refrigerator last year. Defrost timer? Tried a few different things to fix it before buying a new one

Ha... I think my refrigerator might be having a similar problem, too. Just the water dispenser thing, though. It stopped working a few months ago and I figured it was the filter, so I bought a new one and it still didn't work. Then I tried removing the filter and installing this bypass thingy and it didn't help. So I figure the line is just frozen, but I haven't gotten around to defrosting. It's weird 'cause the ice maker still works and the water for both goes in to the fridge from the same line.

Board could really use a couple really good flyers posters.

Unless you're extremely handy, there's not a lot for the do it yourselfer with an AC unit. Sounds like the best to hope for is you need coolant, due to a slow leak. Assuming they can't find the leak, they'll refill it with coolant and you can hope for the best. Our system needs a refill every other year or so. But if it doesn't hold coolant, you're looking at some fairly expensive repairs.

I'm taking care of my aunt's dogs while she and her husband are out of town. Good grief, people worry less and leave fewer instructions for taking care of their kids than she does with these dogs. Just give me a key and leave a note.
