of course not, but let's be real that his statement that came along with it was bullshit. he saw the tide of history and bought a surfboard. great, another vote for various measures, but most politicans are full of shit. let's just remember this when Casey defends this or that. he's good on a lot of issues, and it's because of who gives him money.

Tom Carper and Mark Kirk also backed gay marriage today.

I can't ever remember anything quite like this. Seems like every week multiple US Senators flip on the issue. 50 senators now in favor of gay marriage.

My impression is that Casey is a typical sleezy politician. His ads in 2006, none of which I can recall, had me hating me. He was awful in the debate, mindblowingly awful, and he still got elected by a gigantic margin. His political success has been due to kissing ass and living of his father's name.

Let's see, where does he stand on the issues? Let's check out wikipedia for a tongue-in-cheek review of his politics. :)

-- Sponsor of SOPA, so he hates the internet.
-- Pro-life (said he would vote to overturn Roe v Wade), so he hates women. (Although he managed to get a 100% pro-choice rating from NARAL ProChoice America in 2011 because of the D next to his name)
-- Opposes school vouchers, so he hates children.

i hope they pin this terrible article about Chris Hayes' (actually excellent) guest choices on Up as he moves on to his week nightly program in the locker room as motivation. keep doin your thing, CH. dude praises the Bill O'Reilly regular rotation of guests as a counter-point

i read that...the dude himself is a white guy. he doesn't want to overwhelm a panel with people from similar experiences so he is more likely to get a plethora of pinatas, and opinions

yeah it's like the only major program that seems to give a shit about not over-representing middle aged white men views, and somehow this is a bad thing. and the comparison used is bill fucking o'reilly's lineup.

bipartisanship in NY!:
New York State Senator Malcolm Smith and New York City Councilman Dan Halloran have been arrested as part of a plot to rig the New York City mayor's race.

Smith allegedly tried to bribe leaders of Republican Party county committees around New York City in an attempt to run for mayor as a Republican.

Smith was a registered Democrat.

CBS 2 New York reported other charged people included: Bronx County Republican Party Chairman Joseph Savino, 45; Queens County Republican Party Vice Chairman Vincent Tabone, 46; Spring Valley Mayor Noramie Jasmin, 49; and Spring Valley Deputy Mayor Joseph Desmaret, 55.

In a Jan. 25 meeting in Smith's car in Rockland County, the cooperating witness told Smith that buying the help of Republican county committee leaders would cost "a pretty penny" and asked if it's "worth any price," the complaint said.

The FBI said Smith responded: "Look, talk to me before you close it. But it's worth it. Because you know how big a deal it is."

I don't understand why a show would brag (ie. "I am really proud of this chart.") about the racial/gender composition of its guests.

I don't watch O'Reilly, so you do you have anything specific to say about his lineup, other than LOL OMG:

Guests are also more important than some producers give credit for. The aforementioned O’Reilly and his producers understand this by rotating in the same guests on the same days of the week, even in the same block in the show. The diverse (in all aspects) lineup of Charles Krauthammer, Alan Colmes, Monica Crowley, Bob Beckel, Bernie Goldberg, Dennis Miller, Juan Williams, Megyn Kelly, Marc Lamont Hill, Kirsten Powers, etc. are almost guaranteed to appear the same time and day every week.

the idea is that old white men are on the vast majority of all sunday shows, nightly shows, etc, which is not very reflective of anything other than the beltway in DC. it's certainly appropriate to highlight when a show steps away from this self-perpetuating 'norm'.

What do they talk about on these shows, except for beltway life? I think it's more important to get a diversity of opinion (environmentalists, Keynesians, foreign policy hawks, fiscal conservatives, libertarians, etc) than it is to get diversity of heritage (caucasion, african american, asian, latino, etc). If they are talking immigration or affirmative action, then the diversity of opinion likely aligns with heritage, but I doubt that's the driving theme of the show.

If they are talking Federal Reserve strategy, then the best guests are probably the 12 members of the FOMC. OMG, the FOMC is 67% white male. We can't have that ratio on our show... let's diversify the guestlist! It's pretty silly.

What is a really really white life?

How would you feel if I said you are a typical minority? What kind of person makes a comment like that other than to insult due to race?

nowhere is it written that they do or primarily should talk about the beltway. there's an entire United States of America, and even a world, out there to talk about. it helps to bring in some new voices from time to time.
