YeBig news from Philadelphia’s resident super chef, Marc Vetri: Chef Vetri has just signed the lease for a new restaurant space in which he plans on opening a pizzeria, tentatively called Pizzeria Vetri.
As you can see in the map above, the new spot will be on the 1900 block of Callowhill Street, located behind the Central Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia and almost cater-corner to the 20th Street entrance of the new Barnes Foundation on the Parkway. Talk about a solid location.
Pizzeria Vetri will be Marc Vetri’s fifth restaurant in Philadelphia, after the eponymous Vetri on Spruce Street and Amis on 13th Street, as well as Osteria and Alla Spina as neighbors on North Broad. Marc Vetri announced the news on Twitter himself on Tuesday afternoon.
If we were to speculate, we would say that part of the impetus for Chef Vetri to do a pizzeria concept probably stems from the wild popularity and incredible success Vetri and his partner Chef Jeff Michaud have had with the wood-fired pizzas at Osteria. And for good reason — the pizzas at Osteria are awesome. And consistently rated some of the best in Philadelphia and the country…
However, it should be noted that Osteria turns six years old this month, so it’s not like they haven’t known that a) their pizza is great and b) their pizza is popular — for some time now. So why now? Maybe the opening of the new Barnes Foundation helped convince Chef Vetri to finally fire-up the pizzeria concept? Regardless of the reason, we’re pretty psyched for the result.
As for when to expect to Pizzeria Vetri to debut? Chef Vetri tells us he’s aiming for this summer.

Not really enough for a down payment.
