More letters of recommendation woes--I really don't mind doing this one. However, I can help you a lot more if I know which program you're applying for. And if I had say an e-mail address (rather than the "no replay e-mail I received from the university you're applying to) where I could clarify a few things.

Universities seem 'universally' antagonistic to supporting their graduates' attempts to engage faculty in conversations about graduate study, careers, etc. the 'universal' assumption appears to be that students are somehow magically 'clueful' about this shit

My two complaints I think would fall under basic human politeness--make a personal request (phone call, e-mail, facebook) before you have an institution generate a "do not replay" e-mail. And ask a faculty member who actually knows who you are. (Understand--I teach at a small place, so getting to know faculty members is not a big challenge.)

i dunno what i did wrong, but my car got towed in New York. looked around for it for an hour to make sure I didn't just forget where I'd parked it--the summons confirms that I was at least right about where I left it. my girlfriend's older sister figured out where it was towed, lent me the money to get it out, then took the subway with me from East Village all the way up to Hell's Kitchen. made what could have been a terrible day a manageable one.
