Some people thrive in the military, infantry guys included. And it really helps them out when they hit Civvy Street. Others get really messed up. How much help vets get is a mixed bag as well.
There is no one size fits all easy answer to this.
Why the Marine Corps? Does he have a career in mind? That's a great way to decide on the military and which branch. I encouraged both my nephews to join.
I think because a friend of his did. He really doesn't know what he wants to do. Sometimes this works and sometimes it goes pretty bad. There's no way of knowing beforehand most of the time.
He did mention a career.
I actually recommended he watch Generation Kill because it was pretty realistic in my view.
It's a tough thing.
