Clever Random Thoughts Titles Are for Sissies

i'd hate to be late into my 20's and have no credible job experience. feel like i'd miss the boat on anything good

I felt late to the party just from the year I missed for basic training and the 2 year gap for my deployment. Furtunately, US Army as previous employer is pretty good employment history spackle on the ol' resume.

Sadly, only if you didn't fight in a war

Why do you say that?

There was a story about veterans trying to find work right now. They're having a hard time, many companies automatically think you have PTSD or something mentally wrong upon returning home

I'm certain that's true. It's also true that today's combat vets are getting a lot of help. I'd be interested to see a balanced story regarding this issue.

Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

I'd guess it has a lot to do with what you did in the military--I'd think the market for former infantry soldiers is limited.

It's certainly the case that returning veterans who go back to college tend to do quite well. It's sort of a joke--the students will start whining about how hard it is to read a whole chapter by the next class, and the veteran just sits there smugly.

Lost track of who said this, but the world is full of people who started over or started late and did well for themselves. The only thing to really fear is feeling that it's too late.

My mom didn't start on her current career path till her late 30s and her last promotion was like a 20K raise and a 17% annual bonus vs no bonus at all.

Yeah, it's always been that way. Right now my nephew is pondering the Marine Corps. Of course, my sister wants me to talk him out of it. But it's a difficult thing. The more you try to talk someone out of something like this, the more they may dig in.

i'm trying to give him realistic advice.

Some people thrive in the military, infantry guys included. And it really helps them out when they hit Civvy Street. Others get really messed up. How much help vets get is a mixed bag as well.

There is no one size fits all easy answer to this.
