The Getty, IIRC, is right off the 405...one of the most notorious freeways out there. Just add in some extra time and for God's sake avoid rush hour like the plague.

Which of course means they are stoked about nothing...and you'll see through that front in about 90 seconds.

I think I'm actually taking public transit; I'm expecting it to take an hour and a half each way

one of the things I'm most looking forward to is just experiencing the "west coast mindset" firsthand. when my aunt and her boyfriend moved out there, for the first six months or so, it was all, Oh these people are so weird, we don't fit in. now they say they're never ever coming back

I went to LA a few years back and I agree with everything posted here.

The traffic is balls exactly like Ed said, the cars don't have anti lock breaks so be prepared for that if you are used to driving a car with them. The people are funny. It's hard to explain, but it's a completely different vibe than the northeast. If you can, head out to Santa Monica, we spent a day messing around there really pretty there and neat stuff to check out. Check out Hollywood and all that touristy crap too, it's kind of trashy, which is funny.

Not in love with LA, very fun place to visit but it's beyond me why people clamor to move there. SD and SF are amazing and it's easy to see why people move to either place.

I lived in SF and loved it. I want to move there again, maybe later in life. My brother lived in LA and I didn't like it that much. Nice to visit, would hate to live there.

LA traffic is the worst in the nation, much worse than SF traffic.

Now we live in NYC and DC.

That poor sandwich was woefully ill-equipped to handle my lunch hunger. Good game though sandwich buddy, you tried.

LA and NoCal couldn't be more different. The Bay Area and the Valley are beautiful. SF is the greatest city in the U.S.

Housh, I was in San Diego last week with the wife/kids for 4 days. San Diego is incredible. Just unbelievably perfect. We drove up the Pacific Coast Highway to San Francisco. The drive on PCH on the Central Coast (basically Morro Bay to Monterey) is the best drive you will over make. Highly recommend it.

I wish I could do that but just not sure if I'll have the time. is the stretch between LA and SD comparable at all?

San Diego up through Newport Beach is pretty cool. Laguna Beach is pretty awesome. You'll want to get back to Route 5 around Irvine. Don't take it up through Long Beach
