is this actually true? because i've never cared enough to look into it, but some people are insistent.

i remember my parents doing a blind taste test with miller vs bud in ocean city one year when i was like 15. my parents are both staunch miller drinkers and they both could tell the difference. cool story, right? i only remember it because my 15 year old confused self had some wonderful nights with the memories of the miller girls' cleavage.

I did a Miller/Bud/Coors Light thing with my family last summer. I got all three on the first try. Did a follow up to see if it was a fluke, and only got one right. I don't think anyone out of the 10+ people we had trying got all three right twice.

That said I would be willing to accept pretty awful odds that I could correctly identify Coke Zero vs. Diet Coke. I mean, they really don't taste much alike. Coke Zero is by far the superior product.

Diet soda is awful. I'd rather be fat. Seriously. Sorry, guys.

I don't know that I could differentiate Pepsi Max and Diet Pepsi because I never drink them, but that's about it

i believe my parents would get it right every time. if you only drink miller for like 20 years, you're going to notice the different subtitles, at least i think you would. obviously there are differences between pepsi/coke, miller/coors/bud that regular drinkers will pick up on, but to someone who switches in and out, i think the difference is quite negligible.

A big impetus for the taste test was my mom asserting the only two beers she liked were Blue Moon and Coors Light. She's not a big drinker and usually goes with white wine, so it's not like she drinks a lot of beer, but I'd guess 90% of the beer she's consumed over the past two decades was Coors Light. She got it wrong in the taste test, which was hilarious. This had come up previously when we were at PJ Whelihans and Miller or Bud were on special, but she insisted on getting a Coors Light.

yeah, my parents were both the type of people to drink 4/5 nights a week. not to excess, but they would be having beers more days than not. so they were obviously familiar.

It's amazing how much packaging, billions of dollars in advertising and marketing, brand affinity and nostalgia affect your brain.

But it's extremely difficult for normal people to reliably tell the difference between Coke and Pepsi during blind studies.

you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?
