This study is the first to assess emergency department costs associated with college students’ alcohol-related blackouts.

given the # of ED visits for such causes in such a population is almost certainly no more than 0.25% of the student body+guests over the year - let's make it 200 visits - those are couple-thousand-dollar binges before you get to the cost of drinks.

One of the nerve-jangling - sobering? - things to me is that you can be sure a meaningful few of the visits are repeaters

most medical bills have all kinds of crazy inflated numbers on them, 50 bucks for aspirin, 200 for some gauze, etc. if you're using those pre-insurance numbers, half a million doesn't seem like all that much for a massive school.

Schools should go back to encouraging keggers. It's a lot harder to black out on piss weak keg beer than it is on grain alcohol punch.
