They are what they are. But I have disdain for Outback. Rustler/Ponderosa level steaks for "real restaurant" prices.

When I lived in Italy they didn't have no McDonalds or BK or any of the fine restaurants. So when we'd get to Nurnburg in the FRG most of the fellahs went to McDonalds to get a Big Mac and some beers before they hit the Wall and find them a ho.

Those were the days.

We did have some good authentic Italian places in Italy and no olive Gardens either.

A single bloomin' onion with dipping sauce is 3,000 calories. That is almost unbelievable.

i feel like i should write an essay about chain restaurants. but this will suffice. chains have their place.

if you're out of town on business in a place you've never been, you're tired and you don't feel like taking a complete stab in the dark for a meal, you can go to olive garden or ruby tuesday or whatever. you know going in that the food will probably be bland unless you really doctor it up. but you can probably assure yourself you a.) won't get deathly ill and b.) won't have a truly awful meal, especially one that might cost you a decent chunk of change.

no one would ever confuse the olive garden with a fine, authentic italian joint. if you're home and you know your area, it wouldnt make much sense to choose olive garden over a local place.

but really at the end of the day, its a random meal. you eat, on average, 2.5 meals per day. Times 7 days a week = is between 17 and 18 meals a week. That's almost 80 meals a month. And almost 960 meals a year. Times 60 years is over 57,000 meals in your lifetime. For some, many more. Not every meal has to be at a trendy, cool location. not every sandwich has to come from joe's local deli. its food. some meals will be better than others. thats life.

Chain restaurant conversations are our chain restaurants. They're not bad, not great; but they're filling and serve their purpose.
