Nate Silver
With the delay in Texas, about 30% of GOP pledged delegates will not be chosen until May 22 or later.

Well, that finally would force your folks to grapple with the unpleasant truth that while they never mention Dubya, there's roughly zero policy difference from him on offer.

Santorum is polling double digit leads in national polls over Romney. I'm going to cry.

Romney should just walk away now. The stupidity level is going for a high watermark. With another 243K jobs added it seems that the only message about Obama not being a good steward for the American people might be that he is not a white GOP candidate. The check list is looking pretty thin at this point: Detroit is performing post bail out, jobs are finally being added, the TARP money has been paid back (with little actual effect mind you), GM & AIG have made small profits for the Government, and a stringer full of dead terrorists from the most wanted list.

Although Jersey points out that Jeb Bush is a viable candidate politically, I think that another Bush is not electable due to branding problems.

Where I completely agree with you, and I think most readers here know that Santorum's skeletons to be explored are damning, do you (Jersey) think that Romney is now damaged goods? I think he is quickly becoming beyond repair.

The fact that our current budget deficit would be the 13th largest economy in the world is pretty damning.

Only if you ignore how we got there. Its systemic. Coming out of the Clinton years the concern was how to spend the taxes being brought in as we reversed the tide. Bush II took care of that. If you think Obama is responsible for where we are and it is his millstone alone, then good for you, don't let facts slow you down. The banks were crumbling, the US auto industry was mostly in failure mode, the market explosion was cresting and the job implosion was well underway before he stepped into office.

When Obama took office the unemployment rate was 7.7%, now it is down to 8.3%. If you want to go Regan with trickle down, you would need to trickle down Bush's poor economic policies as a cause for deeper recession. You also need to recognize the Bush sponsored bailouts, etc. That said, the US needed all of it and it seems to be paying off.

Now if we could just bother to buy American and spend what it takes to make stuff in a real world economy, then we would be fine. We might even be able to talk Walmart into buying American and raising prices as American would pay for that economic stability (ain't happening).

I know what TARP is. I wasjust confused why he would cite one of the few successes of Bush as a reason to support Obama, because he seems to be claiming that TARP is something that Obama had to overcome, when he and Bush were actually on the same page on it.
