JH should do a research paper or a dissertation on whether the victor of a competitive primary has a better or worse chance at the Presidency than a nominee who won more or less by acclimation. I don't even remember if Gore's victory was tougher than Bush's. Of course, it will depend I suppose in part on how you operationalize the independent variable.

Gore's victory in 2000 was much easier. Gore only had one opponent--Bill Bradley--and never lost a single primary. McCain gave Bush some trouble until South Carolina and still managed to win a handful of primaries afterwards.

Romney isn't spending any of his own money on the campaign this time around.

My senior thesis was about competitive primaries in gov and senate primaries and their effect on general election results. Wish I kept my excel data on it. Now that I actually understand regression I would like to have another go at it.

Yes, the Republican candidates all have a hard on for budget cutting until Obama actually proposes budget cuts. The NASA is our future, the military would be eviscerated, all pharmaceutical research will be forever canceled.

She can be Vice President, that's a very restful job. I agree with the poster who said she looked bad during SOU. Either she was sick, or she's aged about a decade since running for President.
