If it's a $245 jackpot, how much do you actually take home with the cash payout? After taxes I mean.

If you take the lumpsum, then pay taxes, you wind up with like 40 or 45% of that. I think.

The MegaMillions lump sum is a larger % of the nominal figure because it gets paid off over 26 years instead of 30. I think with Powerball, cash option basically cuts it in half, and taxes bring you down another 40% or whatever, so $245 becomes $74ish.

That's correct. And a complimentary brunch this morning. And it was at a hotel a mile away from my apartment so it wasn't all that bad

I really like Northern California, but shit its fucking expensive. I wonder what's the earliest I could put in for a transfer to Austin, Boston or Chicago.

Austin is definitely a city I could see myself loving.

I should love Austin but I feel like my contrarianism will kick in when I eventually go there

My new dream city is Portland

I hear Portland is cool, but still pretty expensive. Austin would be great for me since the company has an office there and the living is cheap (cheap rent, no state income tax). I've been at this job for 3 months (in my home office for 2 of those months) and I'm already thinking about how I can get a transfer. Probably not good, but I think they're actually supportive of people moving to different offices. Would be pretty sweet if I could pull this off for next August/September. Just need to start planting the seeds now.

portland is really that expensive? seattle isn't too bad. i'm paying 250 more for rent than in nd, but prices on everything else are comparable. i can't imagine portland is much worse.

Hmm...I assumed it was worse. A little worse than average according to this:

My cousin used to live there and always complained about prices, I guess that's because she was coming from Pittsburgh.

Playing with that makes me want to cry. According to this, my price adjusted salary in Austin would be over 20K a year less. God damnit.

I remember Austin being fairly expensive. At least people were complaining a lot about it. Nice town. Good tunes. UT right there. It's real hot there. When it does storm, it's a gully washer. Traffic is really bad.

Once you get out of the metroplex itself you are miles from nowhere. Hill country. Both Houston and San Antonio are pretty close and Dallas isn't too far away either.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

I have to leave soon to watch my daughter in the Halloween parade. I think I'll go as "drunk dad". Excuse me while I grab an undershirt and pee my pants.

My daughter's going to college there. That's expensive. But prices otherwise seemed pretty reasonable. I found a parking spot in a lot right downtown for $5 for 12 hours one evening.I wanted to just leave it there forever.
