In other words, I don't have a vote on this and am completely irrelevant to the outcome so am going to pander to the right wing base of my party that distrusts me

My bad -- I'll wait until after the nomination is bestowed to begin taking the presumptive frontrunner seriously.

But if Obama loses, it will be to someone more right-wing, pushing us further in that direction - not less.

Oh, I get that. But right now I feel like we're in a dynamic that when the Rs are in, things get worse faster; when it's the Ds, slower. The system isn't safe for centrists (like Obama) right now, unless--maybe--they're either crazy (Perot) or super-stubborn and egomaniacal (Bloomberg). A revitalized left, paradoxical though it might sound, could save the center.

I don't disagree, but how does Obama facing a tough primary challenge that he will ultimately win, but that nonetheless presages a loss in the general election, "revitalize" the left?

What the Dems need, perhaps, is their own version of the tea party in the House, a bunch of more-tough sounding Dennis Kuciniches, there to attach crazy leftist riders to anything the Republicans try to pass.

Pretty good breakdown of the 'deal'. Well not breakdown...but commentary on.

To be even fairer, Dems complain about things like Obama not repealing the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, when most of these same Dems were in Congress when the Dems could have stopped these cuts from being implemented.

Vice President Joe Biden joined House Democrats in lashing tea party Republicans Monday, accusing them of having “acted like terrorists” in the fight over raising the nation’s debt limit.

matt kibbe dearly needs more enemies like Chris Matthews

Matthews tries so hard to be as smart as Lawrence ODonnell, and fails so miserably (mostly his format hampers him, but his brain doesn't help)

Almost as remarkable is that bill passing by more than 100 votes after everyone bitched about it all day

Well, there goes Romney's bid for the Presidency. He's done. (I understand the calculation here, but he's not going to convince any of the Pawlenty or Bachmann supporter that he's one of them.)
