Probably, but as long as he doesn't spend it he makes interest on it, and if they don't he keeps it.

Also, if they don't have his last address from PA and he doesn't leave a forwarding address in ND, it won't be terribly easy to find him and get the money back.

I've been overpaid (not double, a couple of hundred extra in my paycheck) twice in my life. The first time it happened, I reported it, and they just deducted the amount from my next paycheck. The second time, I played dumb (there was a pretty complicated screw up prior to that paycheck, and so the dumb act wasn't entirely an act) and when the error was discovered, they deducted the amount out of my next check.

Relax, guys, I'm not going to go out and blow it all tonight. I'll see what happens in the next month or so, though. Basically, all that article said is that if they find out about it, they can take it back without notifying me if they figure it out in 5 days. I'm assuming they have to inform me beyond that. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on my bank account the next few weeks, though.
