does this mean they caught you or something?

When you cut the cards in blackjack shoe (6-8 decks in a shoe), they place the yellow cut card about 1/4 from the end of the shoe. When the yellow card comes out, the shoe is over and they reshuffle. It's one of the many ways they try to crack down on counting. For obvious reasons, the count becomes more meaningful the closer you get to the end of the deck.

I am reading your words. but that provocative woman wearing the dominatrix-y undergarments in your avatar is once again drowning you out

that's ok, I don't get cards anyway.
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

After spending eight hours at the Pokemon Black & White event at the Franklin Mills Mall today (the new game comes out a week from Tuesday), my oldest declared: "THIS IS THE GREATEST VACATION EVER". They youngest literally passed out once we got back to the car he was so exhausted and happy.

F U, Mickey.

I think it's neat how Pokemon appeals to "special needs" or disabled people (whatever you're supposed to say when you aren't making fun). A dude with Aspergers is responsible for it, so maybe there's something he "gets" about the whole thing, I don't know. Not just little kids, either - deaf kids and grown-ups, folks in wheelchairs, folks that have other problems - all loving life and glorying in Pokemon today. It really was cool.

There are too many!! It's not even worth catching them all anymore Red and Blue were the best! Screw you Gold, Diamond, Sapphire, FireRed, GrassGreen, Magenta, Muave, etc.

Hard to say. You're a natural fit for the Progressive Democrats in terms of your economic outlook, but you're a pragmatist and very much into the workings of a political machine, which puts you more in the fianna fail camp. Fianna Fail also have the tradition - Fine Gael were a hybrid party which came about in the 30s and didn't sniff power until the coalition government of the late 40s.

Yeah, you're probably a fianna failer. go read about charlie haughey and sean lemass.

Is there a Green Party? That's who I'd vote for. Or is there a party for half dozen or so Anglicans still living in Ireland? Maybe I'd go with them.

So what's up with the New York Times Sunday Magazine.?I read Virginia Heffernan's article on electronic media and it was a farewell piece. Oh well, I find the topic interesting but not really the tone of most of her articles. Then I read On Language and that's a valedictory too. Jeez, that column's a little uneven, but I always look forward to it. Then I get to The Ethicist AND THIS IS THE LAST OF THESE TOO. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON???!! I LOVE THE ETHICIST. NEXT TO THE CROSSWORD PUZZLE IT'S THE MAIN REASON I READ THE MAGAZINE. CAN THEY AT LEAST ASSURE ME THAT THEY'LL ALSO NOT BE DEVOTING HALF THE ISSUE TO CRISES THAT NO ONE OUTSIDE A TEN BLOCK SQUARE AREA OF THE UPPER WEST SIDE EVEN REALIZES IS A PROBLEM!!!??? THAT WOULD BE A FAREWELL SPEECH I COULD LIVE WITH!!!! OR TONE DEAF MATT BAI PROFILES THAT CAN'T SEEM TO REALIZE THAT THAT THERE ARE AREAS OF A SUBJECT OTHER THAN THOSE OF INTEREST TO SOMEONE LIKE, SAY MATT BAI? AND THAT STUPID QUESTION LADY IS STILL THERE AND THE STYLE MAGAZINE IS ABOUT 160 PAGES THICK AND ISNT GOING ANYWHERE EXCEPT STRAIGHT INTO THE RECYCLYCING BIN AND MUS T ALL MY SMALL PLEASURES DIE EVEN BEFORE I DO ILL BE GONE SOON ENOUGH NO APOSTOPHES NO PERIODS ARE YOU HAPPY NOW CALVIN BALLLLLLZZZZZZZZZ???????????????????????

The Greens were coalition partners with Fianna Fail so they cratered.

I dunno what party I'd be a member of. It's really an interesting question (well for me I'm sure just about no one else cares).

If the Progressive Democrats still existed, I'm pretty sure I'd vote for them, especially in an STV system. It seems like Fine Gael are to the right of Fianna Fail economically, and they are a member of the more right party Europe so that's attractive.

I guess the two big issues beyond economics which figure in are republican stuff and the EU. Imaginary native Irish me, I'd guess have very strong republican leanings, but obviously Sinn Fein are a nonstarter for economic reasons. That might push me toward Fianna Fail. I think I'd be a big European integration fan given what the EU did to boost Ireland's economy before the disaster of the past few years, so that's more Fine Gael.

My dad would have be Fianna Fail, so maybe I would be also. That's the only reason anyone votes for them, right?

My ballot:
Imaginary Progressive Democrat/independent
Fine Gael
Fianna Fail
Labor
SF
Green

When the politics thread existed, all non politics HWGA threads ended in music

Without the politics thread, all non music HWGA threads trend towards politics

In unrelated news I've listened to this medley from Abbey Road like 40 times in the past week thanks to that thread.

I listened to the full album today because I've been singing songs to myself from that album all week thanks to that thread. Also because it's one of the best albums ever.

Depending on how you pronounce it, it's either a game where you catch and tame "pocket monsters", or Jamaican sexual harassment (where I guess the term "pocket monster" would also apply).

In the past week I ran out of hand soap in the bathroom, face wash, yellow mustard, brown mustard, light bulbs and barbecue sauce. All lasted about 6 months from the initial moving in purchase.
