Post-Politicapocalyptic Random Thoughts

PrattRules wrote:The word "assumption" gets a bad rap. Whenever you mess up and say "I guess I assumed" then the standard reaction is "You know what happens when you assume, right? You make an ass out of you and me." But people make plenty of good assumptions. Assumptions are a necessity in life and not necessarily bad, despite the popular phrase.

I think the negative reaction is because assumptions are made due to laziness rather than a lack of good information or the time to pursue the correct answer. Even without sufficient information you can hypothesize. Under these conditions of imperfect information, to say that you assumed something is akin to waiving a white flag rather than putting in the effort to deduce a likely solution.

TastyKakes haven't been the same since they stopped the wax paper wrapping of them.

Although being featured in a creepy picture wouldn't have been a bad side bet.

This sucks. I have no idea what even happened in the politics thread that caused there to be no more politics threads. I'll bet it's a juicy read, and now it's gone forever.

I wonder if the pumice stone is a tipping point for many people.

Are you supposed to tip carpet installers?

What if one of them looks like Chooch?

I believe you are, and I did the one time I had it done. They really were kind of jerks, though, and they did a couple things half-assed. So this is a regret I'll bear with me to my grave.

My only consolation is that they've probably picked up cancer from the benzenes etc. by now. But it's a small consolation.

Hmm

So it's a 600-700 basement floor, and they didn't have to move a damn thing.

$20?

When we had carpet put in, my dad told the guy (in front of his workers) that they did a piss poor job and proceeded to point out all the flaws. Almost got ugly. They did not receive a tip.

As long as it's facing the right side up, I wouldn't know a good installation from a bad one. I'm starting to think this is gonna be muy mal para Woody.

If you can't tell off the bat whether they did a good job, you'll know in a couple of days.
