Further, it was a fair bit of drivel from you, moz. You know when this speech would be better? Any day BUT september 11th.

And the other reason you were criticized is for that weak sentence was the rightly or wrongly. OBVIOUSLY they believed it, but the whole "rightly or wrongly". I mean really.

Everyone is asserting its drivel.

Which part exactly? It ain't drivel, friends, it's truth.

And what I was referring to was not jh's politics but his dismissive reference toward academicky-type writing as "googoo drivel" without offering any evidence for such a claim, or even a counter-argument. Just dismissive.

Academics should stop writing that way. It's either pretentious or a way to hide the fact that what they're saying signifies nothing.

I don't think anything I wrote was really all that laden with academic jargon, just a bit more elevated than U.S. News and World Report-level discourse. I mean, I'm sure you have read stuff, as I know I have, that was far more dense for the sake of dense. That's not what I was going for, nor do I think it was what I produced.

I got onion rings from the dive-looking burger stand across the street from me because those wings weren't enough. Oh man, are they fantastic. The place is literally called "Burger Time".

so all these years I've been wondering. Do you think at the end of the pina colada song they reconciled, or realized they were doomed and went their separate ways pronto???

Spurs tie with West Brom, Phillies lose, Braves win, PSU getting rolled. This song made me feel a bit better:

Not being emotional about 9/11 does not equal a terrible person

That's not what was objectionable about your ludicrous statement. Reread it.

Just so I'm clear: is anyone actually disagreeing with mozart's contention of some causal relationship between US foreign policy decisions and the attack of 9/11? As in, "al Qaeda was every bit as likely to have attacked us whether or not we intervened in Lebanon, had a troop presence in Saudi Arabia, etc"?

I'm not, no. But I also think they attacked us for our freedoms, in a direct 'we're materialist, evil infidels' way and an indirect 'our freedoms make us super baller' way.

What moz was saying, at least in my interpretation, was that they attacked us because of "our freedoms"(whatever that means), but more importantly, for our massive involvement in the part of the world they live in, which was purely self-involved.

I was really only trying to make fun of how many commas he used in one sentence and we got to him telling me I was going to fail at life in like two responses

Fair enough. I really have no interest in making an ass out of myself while trying to argue politics with people who obviously know more about the subject than I do anyways...

My initial response was meant in the spirit in which your jibe was given: you say I use too many commas and hyphens, I say "learn to read." Just back-and-forth.

But then you said what I said was "drivel." That, combined with the tag line to your previous comment that you hate "hippy liberals" - sort of a joke, I realize - which referred to the "content" of my initial comment - not a joke, at least as far as I could tell - drew my stronger rebuke. If you're going to call my "content" "drivel," you need to offer some kind of evidence for that assertion.

I know, it's one of those things I do. And if people say, "Dude, you use too much punctuation," I don't get mad or irritated. But that's not exactly what got under my skin there.
