I've had a nice renaissance with avocado over the last year or so. I ate so many as a kid that I think I grew tired of them. Come to think of it, my diet as a six or seven year old was very strange. I ate avocado and liverwurst like it was my job 11 or 12 years ago.

i wasn't introduced to avocado until college. asked my parents why they didn't buy it, they just shrugged
Why not just go storm Normandy and get shot in the face while you're at it
Why not get a plumbing license and run around high on shrooms stealing peoples' pocket change

has anyone else read this mind-numbingly stupid piece in this week's NYTimes Mag?

The Web Means the End of Forgetting

The author presumably feels that the opposite of forgetting is understanding, or knowing

the author is a GW law prof. Huge irony that he's writing a book on Brandeis, who must be spinning in his grave.

EDIT: here's one small, randomly selected entry:

Another proposal, offered by Paul Ohm, a law professor at the University of Colorado, would make it illegal for employers to fire or refuse to hire anyone on the basis of legal off-duty conduct revealed in Facebook postings or Google profiles. “Is it really fair for employers to know what you’ve put in your Facebook status updates?” Ohm asks. “We could say that Facebook status updates have taken the place of water-cooler chat, which employers were never supposed to overhear, and we could pass a prohibition on the sorts of information employers can and can’t consider when they hire someone.”

there are numerous similar examples, which for this observer without legal training calls into question the very underpinnings of legal thinking - if thinking can be properly applied to such drivel.

How about we all simply get in the habit of publicly ridiculing employers who imagine that they can divine much of anything of value about a person's ability to perform some job they have for a person to do from internet tidbits that some flunky at the firm, or working for it, can round up about any applicant?

Fair warning: the well-meant but profoundly ignorant "solutions" offered by Ohm, Rosen and others mentioned in the essay (one of Rosen's mots: "Instead of suing after the damage is done (or hiring a firm to clean up our messes), we need to explore ways of pre-emptively making the offending words or pictures disappear." Right - and you need to procure a functioning brain cell, Jeff) may make your brain smaller.

Someone shouted out "ZOO WITH ROY!!" to me (I was wearing the t-shirt given to me by Woody at the BSG get together) while I was filling up at 7am at a gas station in Fayetteville North Carolina yesterday morning. Go figure...

I used to eat ketchup straight up when I was 6 or 7. Also, I would put it on steak and other nonsensical foods. In high school and college, I moved on to BBQ sauce and now I'm ready to go use ketchup as a sometimes condiment.

Is this bit of lunacy representative of the Hoover Institution's output these days? Because damn:

car's almost packed up....now i'm starting to get that sickening feeling i always get when i realize i'm going to be in my car for the next 18 or so hours. and while the dog has been amazing on car rides to this point, 1200 miles is going to be terrible.

yea, my lease is up and i don't need to be here next semester since the only class i'm enrolled in is my practicum. just have to come down sometime in the fall to present it. in hindsight, knowing that i still don't have a job lined up, i shouldn't have rushed through the program, but it's nice to be done. should i still not have a career come december, i might need to be institutionalized.
