Sometimes in life anamolies occur. Don't let it change your mindset though.

Can you figure out a real personality from a message board? I'd like to think I have everyone pegged.

I mean some people are pretty inconsistent and hard to gauge but most people just post as they would talk to a friend I think.

Van Halen's video for Pretty Women is amazing. Almost rivals separate ways by Journey.

At my gf's father's 4th of July party yesterday, while discussing children's TV (sister just had a baby girl, her and toddler going on 3 were focus of attention) a high-strung, supermacho older guy started talking about how Mister Rogers was a top sniper in Nam and wore the sweater to cover up tats. Somebody added that Capt. Kangaroo dragged Mister Rogers out of battle when he was wounded.

As I sensed, it was an amalgamation of urban legends.

Bob Keeshan -- Captain Kangaroo -- was a Marine. He turned 18 in 1945 and was still in the states when Japan surrendered. Mr. Rogers never served in the military near as I can tell.

There was a story floating around that Keeshan and Lee Marvin fought together at Iwo Jima. Marvin was a highly decorated Marine who was wounded on Saipan and was still recovering when the battle of Iwo Jima took place.

yeah, the story began with Lee Marvin - I knew he was the real deal. Just watch him in the Big Red One.

Director Sam Fuller was in the big war as well -- in fact he was in the 1st ID and the film had a very autobiographical tone to it. Big Red One was one of the best war movies ever.

Just make sure you get the director's cut.

And Fred Rogers was a Presbyterian minister.

Three (or four) facts in search of a point.

My Dad went to college with Cosmo Allegretti who appeared on both Mr. Rogers and Captain Kangaroo, although often with his hand up a rabbit puppet's butt. Cosmo was a little younger than my Dad, though, whose military experience was similar to the Captain's so I doubt he was any kind of a war hero.

Mr. Greenjeans was a Marine, but apparently just played in a band.

Frank Zappa is not the son of Mr. Greenjeans

A decade or so ago, Camden Yards featured the hottest fucking girls in the Universe, not sure if it does any more.

Here's a more familiar view of Cosmo "Gus" Allegretti, who was apparently a tremendous athlete at Marietta college.

Captain Kangaroo was the commencement speaker at my undergraduate ceremony. I was commissioned in the Army as a second lieutenant the same day and he commented on how he served in the Marines during World War II.

I thought it was kind of goofy before he spoke, but he delivered a fantastic speech reminding us that the world was full of adventure, that we should be friendlier to each other and not too take ourselves too seriously.
