My dad met a nurse in the early '70s while stationed at an Airforce base in Texas. They were together 3 months before he asked her to marry him. He was leaving for Vietnam the next day. She said yes, and they agreed to get married during his r&r in Hawaii in six months.
Cut to Hawaii....she steps off the plane and says she reconsidered, that she's just not quite ready to get married. They still have fun for 10 days in Hawaii, but it was a real ball-buster knowing he had to go back to 'Nam after all that happened.
3 years later he meets another nurse at a VA hospital in Delaware. He actually marries this one and makes a Meatball out of it along the way. Then they separate after 27 years.
37 years after they meet, 1970s Airforce nurse finds my dad on Facebook. 3 months later he tells me they're getting married July 4th of this year. She lives in Memphis but is moving here to be with him in the house I grew up in (the house my mom made).
My dad just bought New Wife a '95 Buick Lesabre.
These are interesting times we live in.
