Blumenthal, Paul and other idiots...POLITICS Thread

Runyan up 55-45% with about 2/3 of the vote from Ocean in. Nothing from Burlco. I think Burlington should be better for Big Jon, based on Eagles stuff and also having a better party organization.

I think Runyan has to do something anti-Washington (Redskin) in his TV ads this fall

Halter just took the lead, after trailing all night. Still, only 56% of the precincts in. But he made up a huge amount of ground very quickly.

In fact, something looks a little funky.

Runyan just about hit 60%. Given my nerves earlier that's very solid.

Christie was in Mt. Laurel tonight for the party.

Yeah, politico seems to have flipped some numbers around, because a handful more numbers came in, but Lincoln now has almost a 5000 vote lead, which I think may be enough.

Though who knows what's right.

If politico's numbers are accurate, Lincoln wins this. Give the counties that have reported, I don't see where Halter can get the votes.

I voted for Halter, but now I'm pissed he ran and wasted all that money and energy for nothing. It was an annoying campaign, and I'm glad it's over.

It's not a total loss--it looks like some real scummy Dems are going down in the house primaries. But it's gonna be uphill in November for the winners in the 1st and 2nd.

The most bizarre part of all this is how handily Halter carried my part of the state. There's a labor vote out there in Texarkana/Miller County. But for the most part, these are conservative Dems, who really seem to dislike Lincoln rather strongly. It's likely that the Halter vote down here was an anti-Lincoln vote. Given how poorly she's campaigned, I don't see her turning those people around.

Labor's $10 million spent in Arkansas wasn't a pointless exercise; it proved the point that unions can't prioritize spending, ever.

GOP turnout in the Nevada Senate Primary last night was 45%. That's crazier than the person we nominated.

Young Ezra Klein with a counterintuitive argument about the incumbents who've lost in primaries (plus Lincoln, who barely squeaked through) that I think makes a lot of sense:

Part of the narrative that's emerged is that these primaries show an anti-incumbent, anti-Washington, year. That's right, but it's mixed, incoherently, with pro-party -- which is to say, pro-Washington establishment -- results. The different bases are eliminating politicians who've been insufficiently dedicated to holding their party's line. The result will be much more significant than merely the election of three new senators. Rather, surviving senators will upgrade the threat an unhappy base poses to their reelection and trim their independence accordingly. The moderates and compromisers who are left will stop acting like moderates and compromisers. This election looks, if nothing else, like it's going to be a big step forward in bringing strong party discipline to the Senate.

Problem of course is that the Senate simply can't function if "strong party discipline" is the rule, as we're pretty much seeing already.
