much less sport in scandals of the current variety with Dems - moral, ethical, sexual preversion is expected of them

(for the wary, the misspelling is intentional - I picture Keenan Wynn's Colonel "Bat" Guano when ever the subject of deviance comes up)
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

I dunno. Wouldn't the Democratic Party be the one more against workplace sexual harrassment?

In any case:

Did he have a stroke, or do you think he's always had the crooked smile he exhibited at the end of his commercial?

This looks like a great idea. I can't see any potential problems.

A Louisiana sheriff plans to arm volunteers with shotguns, riot shields, batons, and a 50-caliber machine gun mounted on a "war wagon," as part of "Operation Exodus," a plan to provide security in the event of a terrorist attack or civic unrest. "It's a calling," he says.

The office of Sheriff Larry Deen of Bossier Parish last month selected for the program 200 local residents -- mostly ex-law-enforcement personnel -- and began training them in "defensive techniques in the event of a struggle," reports the Shreveport Times. The plan calls for the new recruits to be sent to protect food from grocery stores, gas from gas stations, and other crucial local resources, should the situation demand it.

So they're like minutemen, able to be called at a moment's notice. Except they'd most likely be used on their fellow citizens. :|

A pic from Operation Exodus training:

Looks pretty menacing. It actually kind of looks like your average yoga class could win that fight.

Also, buried in that story is that the program costs 4.5 geez. So you've really got to want to get militaristic to enroll/be chosen for this thing.

I haven't read the story but this sounds like baseball fantasy camp for those who wish they coulda been brownshirts.

... because who doesn't love political quizzes that are only 10 questions long, here's a site that was apparently on Glenn Beck's show.

Mine came out libertarian, with me slightly more liberal than conservative.

That quiz sucked. It was clearly written by a crazy libertarian who has no conception of how normal conservative Republicans feel about spending issues or foreign policy.

Ah, national id card. Ha, haven't heard that in a while.

I love this country, but I would probably leave if that ever happens. The extent to which a certain section of this population is willing to sacrifice their liberty is concerning.

There are approximately eight people in the world that would describe their foreign policy views in this manner.

A strong defense requires playing an active, interventionist role in world affairs. As the last remaining superpower, we have a moral duty to police the world at any cost, or else we will surely pay the ultimate price. If we don't militarily wipe out terrorism, the terrorists will wipe us out. We must resolve to win no matter how long it takes. It's better to strike now than to pay later for our inaction.

So you showed up in the libertarian quadrant?

(Of course you didn't. Because the point of the quiz, upon reflection, was to figure out where along the 2d spectrum someone lies. it can't be done in 10 questions if all the answers neatly sum up the obvious liberal/conservative/etc position. Having 10 liberal answers wouldn't tell you much. It's when you have to decide if the "classic" liberal position is a little too over-the-top to support where the ability to segment the population comes into play. The idea is that some of the answers are going to be libertarian leaning to see if they can ensnare any liberals or conservatives, and some answers will all be different shades of liberal to see if a libertarian or statist is tempted to choose it. )

I can see Bossier Parish from my house! No lie. It's a pretty fucked up place, but they do have casinos where from what I understand any half decent player can win big taking advantage of the rubes.

Also, in the comments to the Shreveport Times story, MattS is commenting. Funny, though, there's no quantitative analysis in his post there.

BTW, the fact that Hoyer found out about Massa's allegations and said he was giving his office 48 hours to report them to the Ethics Committee or else he would do it himself is damn impressive. Clearly better than how GOP leadership handled Foley.

I can't even imagine how much better off the Dems would be if Hoyer was their speaker and not Nancy.

What if the cost of policing the world is the ultimate price? Does that cut out the middle man?
