Nine and a half years here. Surprisingly emotional.

Also, I haven't bought presents for anyone except my wife. Not seeing my family until second Sunday in January, so there's time yet, but the paucity of ideas makes me nervous.

So when interest on my student loans kicks in in six months, is there any reason to not constantly ask for deferments, even if I can and am paying as much as I can?

There's no reason not to defer as long as you are making at least the interest payments. Otherwise, the interest keeps accruing and you end up owing more.

That's pretty much what I mean. I'm gonna make the payments, but I'm going to keep asking if they want to pay the interest for me.
