Their utter lack of self-awareness is breathtaking.

But I don't think they represent "the Jersey shore" anymore than Audrina Partridge represents LA. (That might be a bad example.)

I mean I've never watched the show, but my shore town is a bunch of stockbrokers and people who work in NYC, who come down the beach and wear plaid shorts at night and get destroyed on expensive booze, then go back to their hell on Monday hungover and sunburned.

It's not really just a matter of adding up the two workloads; it's hard to explain. It's like, you get done a day of your real work and you want to relax or do something fun, but you've got this whole other work that you could do but you don't want to, so you don't, but you still know you have to do it and it hangs on your head like a brick so you get drunk and then the next day you have two days worth of work so you figure you'll just put it off and do it all on Sunday and you get drunk but then you can't get drunk while you watch football but you want to get drunk and you have a book on your lap but you're not reading it and next thing you know you're e-mailing your professor about how your grandmom asphyxiated herself and you've been so busy consoling your little brother about it that you're behind in your studies but you'll catch up after just one more drink. It just fucking blows, man.

Honestly, no. You can definitely do work over the summer, and if you're a masochist over Christmas break. After you finish course work, maybe then. If you have something that you can do for a few hours here and there, then maybe it's possible. But if you're taking 12 hours of grad courses in a top poli sci program, you'll be very busy. For three years, I did almost no recreational reading.

I had something like a 25-30 hour a week job while I was in grad school in my mid-20s. It wasn't so bad. But it was the world's easiest job, which helped.

I more meant I could get random projects from the guy I work for, spend 5-10 hours a week on them, and make a little spending money. I have no illusions that this is easy or something to be jumped into lightly. Which is why I'm being such a pussy about it.

Honestly, JH, I'd like to see you put the kibosh on grad school until Sep 2011. You're behind, you're not going to make the right decision or get into the school that you could get into with the money you could get.

He's right. I think you've already missed a bunch of deadlines.

A good friend of mine was laid off from Bloomingdale's several months ago. She's applying to get a master's degree in elementary education.

She's much more wholesome looking without her face on.

I was wondering whether we could get Hank back if DJax is out this week.

I think if I don't do this, and every passing day makes it less likely that I will, I'm going to see about teaching high school. Or maybe go back into the political fray. I dunno. It'd be nice if we lived in some communist dictatorship and they just told me what to do. Unless that involved physical exertion.

i enjoy the banter about grad school since i'll be starting back up in january most likely. i'll still be working full time, unless i get laid off, which is a distinct possibility. admittedly, i'm not talking grad school on the same level as jersey is.

Some guys who clearly just robbed a liquor store were just trying to sell me booze.
