Except it's true. However, "ruining" may be too strong a word choice. I'd go with "detrimental to".
She could be completely, indisputably right (she's not) and it would still be an utterly stupid and hurtful thing to say to one's mother.

Family dynamics are all unique, but in mine, the mom's response would have been both obvious and devastating.
That's pretty bad, though. Hope everyone chills out by tomorrow--not much worse than a Thanksgiving dinner table cold war.
Crash, your plan is voluntary self-removal from the human gene pool, correct? I can respect that, but ultimately I decided I'm too selfish not to try and spawn...

There was a 9.8% increase in the U.S. population from the 1980 to 1990 U.S. Census and a 13.2% from 1990 to 2000. There's 308 million now, which would be a 9.6% increase, with still a year to spare.
In terms of resource consumption (not oil), I dread to think what the country will look like in 30 years. At a rate of ~10% population increase per year, we'll be at about 410 million people by 2040. Maybe I'm just being a worry wart, but that seems troublesome to me.

Then my brother, who might lack common sense from time to time but is good with a quick line, jumped in real quick and said something to the effect of 'Too late now, not even your fellow Democrats would be OK with an abortion this late.' And we sorta just moved on.

Meh, it's not that bad. The fact that you live one state over from the state with the densest population (NJ) and one above the 6th densest in Deleware probably skews your view a bit. Go to some places in the south and the midwest, and there's barely anyone.
