Will he be buried next to his career?

So, I'm putting 2:1 odds on a suicide brought on my anxiety. He was deeply, almost fatally in debt, so he planned all these concerts, which, now, were suddenly a little under three weeks away. He hadn't performed publicly in years, and just before he is supposed to, dies suddenly...

Really? 99% of recording artists would love to sell what Thriller and Off the Wall did in 2008

Michael Jackson was probably a child molester. I'm not sure if this puts him above or below Paul McCartney on the list of the world's biggest pricks.

Wow. Where were you when Michael Jackson died?

And I so wanted to see what he was going to morph into over the next decades.

Seriously though, he produced some of the greatest pop music ever.

No, I got the joke. But Paul McCartney really is a douchebag. Even though the Beatles were great.

Michael was a giant among artists. He revolutionized pop music, dancing, style, and music videos in the 80s and early 90s. I can't hear some of his hits or watch a few of his videos on youtube without reminiscing about 80s pop culture like the red leather jacket, ankle-length pants, and MTV playing actual music. He was always weird, even when he was super popular. But then many artistic geniuses are in some way or another. RIP.

I respect this respect. But a "giant among artists", i'd rephrase that to a giant once upon a time among celebrity pop-artists. I don't know how much of his music he shaped, composed, wrote -- he was at one time a great performer who built on guys like James Brown. The stuff he did as a kid and teen, some if it is classic soul, rb -- motown -- great.

In its day, the early 80's stuff was big too... and he re-invented himself.

Was his contribution timeless? I can't really take Billy Jean seriously anymore... but I can't take most of the Beatles or Elvis seriously anymore either.

I respect what he did, some of it has been blown out of proportion because that's how this celebrity culture works. He surely influenced many, but I think by the mid-late80's he was struggling to find somewhere to go and had become beyond eccentric and disturbing. The better part of the last 10-15 years his fame was largely because of his earlier accomplishmetns and becoming a freak, pedofile and disfigured self-mutiliating horror show. Sadly, that stuff will be as much of his memory as the great songs and dance moves...

He was too detached from the reailty that he was just singing and dancin...

I'd bet he was massively drugged up for years and that probably contributed to his demise if it was heart failure...
